Are there any bag restrictions for visiting Pearl Harbor?

Yes, security at Pearl Harbor is extremely strict, and no bags are permitted at the memorial sites. This includes backpacks, purses, camera bags, and any other item that offers concealment. You may only carry your phone, camera, and wallet. Secure storage lockers are available to rent at the visitor center entrance for a small fee to store your belongings.

How difficult is the hike up to the Diamond Head summit?

The hike is considered moderate. While the trail is mostly paved, it is uneven in some places and includes a steep final section with 99 stairs. The round-trip hike is 1.6 miles and takes about 90 minutes. The panoramic view from the top is incredible, but we do recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and being prepared for a workout.

Is lunch provided on this all-day tour around the island?

Lunch is not included in the tour price. However, we will make a dedicated stop during the day at a location that offers a variety of local food options, allowing you to purchase the lunch of your choice. This provides you with the flexibility to choose what you would like to eat, from local plate lunches to sandwiches, at your own expense.

How much time will we get to spend at Pearl Harbor?

We typically spend approximately two to three hours at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. This allows sufficient time to explore the museums and exhibits at the visitor center and to complete the moving USS Arizona Memorial program. This timing ensures we can also visit the other key sights on our full-day itinerary without you feeling rushed at any point.

Day 01 :

Kampala/Entebbe – Fort Portal – Semuliki National Park

Your Ruku Safaris guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe early in the morning and begin the journey towards western Uganda.

Travel through Uganda's beautiful countryside, passing rural communities, farms, plantations and rolling hills. Continue towards Fort Portal, a scenic town surrounded by crater lakes and tea plantations.

After lunch, proceed towards Semuliki National Park. Along the way, enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the Albertine Rift landscape.

Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon. Relax and enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings.

Day 02 :

Sempaya Hot Springs – Forest Walk & Birding

After an early breakfast, enter Semuliki National Park for a guided nature experience.

Begin with a visit to the famous Sempaya Hot Springs. A guided trail takes you through the forest towards the geothermal springs, where you can observe steam rising from the ground and boiling water emerging from the geothermal system.

The Sempaya area is also excellent for birdwatching and primate encounters.

After the hot springs experience, continue with a guided forest walk, searching for forest birds, monkeys, butterflies and other wildlife.

Possible primate sightings include:

Red-tailed monkeys
Black-and-white colobus monkeys
Grey-cheeked mangabeys
Olive baboons
Vervet monkeys

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the late afternoon, enjoy another birding session around the lodge or nearby forest edge.

Day 03 :

Birding & Primate Tracking – Semuliki Forest

Wake up early for the day's main birdwatching adventure.

The early morning is particularly rewarding because forest birds are most active during the cooler hours. Walk with your experienced birding guide through the forest, listening for bird calls and searching the canopy and undergrowth.

Depending on season and conditions, you may encounter species associated with the Guinea-Congo forest ecosystem, including colourful forest specialists.

Continue your walk while looking for primates and other forest wildlife.

After lunch, enjoy another nature walk or choose an optional cultural experience with communities around Semuliki.

For travellers interested in additional wildlife, an optional excursion can be arranged towards the Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve, subject to time and park arrangements.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 04 :

Semuliki – Fort Portal – Kampala/Entebbe

After breakfast, enjoy a final short nature walk or birdwatching session around the lodge.

Check out and begin your journey back towards Kampala or Entebbe.

The drive takes you through the scenic countryside of western Uganda. Depending on your flight schedule, you can stop in Fort Portal for lunch and enjoy views of the surrounding crater-lake region.

Continue towards Kampala or Entebbe.

You will be dropped off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your onward journey.
